Vietnam Multiple-Entry Visas

Updated: 06:47 PM - 15 Nov,2024

A Vietnam multiple entry visa is a type of travel permit that allows foreign nationals to make more than one trip to the country.

Travelers who plan to enter Vietnam on multiple occasions, such as frequent business travelers and backpackers touring Southeast Asia, may wish to apply for a multiple-entry visa.

However, due to the complexity of obtaining these visas, in many cases, it may be quicker and easier to simply apply for a single-entry Vietnam eVisa online for each entry.

Where Can I Apply for a Vietnamese Multiple Entry Visa?

Getting a multiple-entry visa for Vietnam can be somewhat complicated.

There are 2 methods that eligible travelers can use to obtain this type of visa, but both are lengthier and more complex than simply obtaining a single-entry Vietnam business eVisa or tourist visa online.

International travelers can get a Vietnam multiple entry visa in the following ways:

  • Apply at an embassy
  • Obtain an approval letter online and exchange it for a visa on arrival

How to Get a Multiple Entry Visa for Vietnam

Foreign nationals can get a Vietnam multiple-entry visa by going and applying in the traditional way at a Vietnamese embassy.

Embassies are usually located in the capital cities of foreign nations. Applicants must follow these steps:

  • Travel to their nearest embassy
  • Complete an application for a multiple entry visa for Vietnam in person
  • Submit all the supporting documents
  • Pay the embassy visa fees

The exact procedures may vary depending on the embassy, so it is advisable to contact them first.

Approval letter and multiple entry visa on arrival

The other method of getting a multiple entry visa is by means of a Vietnam visa on arrival. It involves a number of steps, including obtaining a letter of approval in advance. Travelers must:

  • Apply online for an approval letter
  • Bring the letter, along with the required supporting documents to border control
  • Stand in line to submit a visa on arrival application
  • Receive the passport stamp

Applying for an eVisa online

Alternatively, it is much faster and easier to apply for a Vietnam eVisa online each time the individual wants to enter the country. This involves completing a simple form. The eVisa is delivered by email, with no need to queue to have it processed at the Vietnam border.

Vietnam tourist visas and business visas are available in this way.

Types of Vietnam Multiple Entry Visa

There are a number of different types of multiple entry visa for Vietnam. The terms of these visas vary according to the length of their validity and the activities they permit the holder to undertake while staying in the country.

The following types of Vietnam multi-entry visa are currently available for tourists:

  • 1-month multiple-entry tourist visa
  • 3-month multiple-entry tourist visa
  • 1-year multiple-entry tourist visa (US passport holders only)

There are also a number of multiple-entry Vietnam visas for the purpose of business:

  • 1-month multiple-entry business visa
  • 3-month multiple-entry business visa
  • 6-month multiple-entry business visa
  • 1-year multiple-entry business visa

How Much Is a Multiple Entry Visa for Vietnam?

Different Vietnam multiple entry visas come at different prices, with the longer-length visas generally costing upward of USD $100. There are also other factors that determine the cost.

Vietnamese embassies in different countries charge different rates for visas.

Travelers planning to obtain a Vietnam multiple entry visa on arrival will have to pay 2 fees:

  • Approval letter service fee
  • Stamping fee on arrival (to have the passport stamped with the visa)

How Long Does It Take to Get a Multiple-Entry Visa?

Embassy visas take longer to process than online options. Applicants should make a Vietnam visa appointment at the embassy well ahead of their trip. Travelers also need to allow time to travel to the embassy to submit paperwork.

To get the multiple-visa on arrival in Vietnam, travelers need to apply for the approval letter. Vietnam approval letters can take several days to process.

In addition, travelers who apply for the multiple-entry visa on arrival should allow extra time to clear immigration. Passengers must wait in line at the port of entry to submit the visa application.

Alternatively, travelers can apply for a new single-entry eVisa before each trip to Vietnam. Each online application takes just a few minutes, and eVisa processing is fast.

What’s The Difference Between Single Entry And Multiple Entry Visa?

The main difference between Vietnamese single-entry and multiple-entry visas is the number of entries they permit.

Single-entry eVisas can be obtained online, while multiple-entry visas are not available via the eVisa platform; instead, they must be applied for at an embassy or on arrival, with an approval letter in advance.

The Vietnam electronic Visa is much faster and easier to obtain than the multiple-entry visa. Travelers can get their single-entry visa online in one process, unlike the multi-entry visa on arrival.

To take advantage of the simple online application system, travelers must meet the Vietnam eVisa requirements.

Can I Extend a Multiple Entry Visa in Vietnam?

It is possible to extend a multiple entry visa while in Vietnam by going to an immigration office. There, they must complete the necessary paperwork and pay an extension fee.

Although extending a Vietnam eVisa is not currently possible , getting an extension for a multiple-entry visa is time-consuming and could mean the traveler has to take a day out of their trip to go to the immigration office.

In many cases, it may be easier to simply leave the country and apply for a single-entry visa online in order to return.
