Vietnam reopen visa application (e-visa & visa on arrival) for citizens of Belgium starting from March 15, 2022

Updated: 04:27 PM - 15 Nov,2024

From Dec 2019, several countries around the world have implemented restrictions on visa issuance in an effort to combat the spread of the deadly virus, known as Covid 19. Vietnam is one of those countries that have temporarily suspended the visa issuance. The temporary suspension of Vietnam’s visa issuance applies to all nationalities, including citizens of Belgium. Last month, Belgium has reported having nearly million confirmed cases of coronavirus. By suspending the visa issuance, Vietnam is hoping to prevent the virus from getting spread further into the country.

But the good news is that the suspension of the visa issuance has finally been lifted. This means that Belgian nationals who are planning to go to Vietnam for a holiday will now be issued a visa. As a citizen of Belgium, you are required to have a valid visa to enter Vietnam both for tourism or business purposes.

Applying for Vietnam Visa for Citizens of Belgium

Belgian citizens have two options for their visa application to Vietnam. They can choose the e-visa, also known as the electronic visa or they can go for the visa on arrival. Regardless of the type of visa that you will choose, you can be sure that getting a visa to Vietnam is now so easy.

If you are only staying in Vietnam for less than 30 days, your best bet is to apply for the e-visa. This visa is good for single entry and will let you stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days. With this visa, you can enter through the various border points of the country. Aside from the airports, you can use it in entering through the seaport and land borders. The best thing about this visa is that the entire process of application is done online. Thus, you’d be able to apply for this visa without having to leave your home!

But for Belgian visitors who need to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days, the Visa on Arrival is highly recommended. This visa lets you choose between single entry and multiple-entry. You also get to choose between 30 days and 90 days. However, this visa would require you to queue at the visa counter to claim your visa upon arrival. Also, you can only use this visa if you are flying to Vietnam since the visa counters are only located at the airports.

How to Apply for the Vietnam E-visa

The Vietnam e-visa, also known as electronic visa, can be easily applied online using your mobile phone or computer. Just connect to the Internet and go to the official website of the Vietnam Immigration. Click on the option to apply for the e-visa and follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the visa application form. Make sure you type your name correctly. Try to avoid mistakes especially on important data like your passport number. This is to avoid delays in the processing of your visa.
  2. When you’re done, proceed to the next page. Follow the instructions in uploading your passport’s scanned bio page. Upload digital copies of your photos as well.
  1. Make a payment using your card or PayPal account then submit your application.
  2. Wait for about 3 business days, and you’ll receive an email regarding the status of your e-visa application. If approved, follow the instructions on how to download your e-visa. Print the visa and bring it to your trip to Vietnam.

How to Apply for the Vietnam Visa on Arrival

Take note that even though the visa on arrival is a type of visa that you can only claim upon arrival to Vietnam, you are required to register for this visa in advance. Here’s how Belgian citizens can apply for the visa on arrival.

  1. Go online and fill out an application form for your visa application.
  2. When approved, you will be sent a pre-approval letter. You need to print this letter since this is what you will show at the airport visa counter to be given a visa sticker.
  3. Aside from the letter, you will also be sent a blank application form. Fill it out in advance and bring it to your trip to Vietnam. Prepare the other requirements, such as your pictures and cash payment for the stamping fee.
  4. When you arrive in Vietnam, go directly to the Visa Landing section. Give your pre-approval letter, application form, photos, and cash payment. You’ll be asked to wait on one side while your visa is being processed.
  5. Once your visa is available, you will be called back to the counter. They will give you back your passport. Check the passport and you will find the visa sticker attached in it. Review the information and make sure it’s correct before you proceed to Passport Control.
